Curaçao was for a long time the largest Caribbean island of the country Dutch Antilles and is now a separate state within the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
Together with the two neighbouring islands Aruba and Bonaire, Curaçao belongs to the so-called ABC Islands due to its initial letters and is home to about 150,000 inhabitants on about 270 square miles.
As an island under the wind and part of the southern Lesser Antilles, Curaçao already belongs to South America from a geographical point of view, it is about 37 miles from the Venezuelan coast.
Curaçao is a comparatively flat Caribbean island, the Sint-Christoffelberg in the northwest of the island forms with approximately 375 meters the highest elevation of the country.
Curaçao International Airport (also Hato International Airport) is located about 6 miles northwest of the capital Willemstad and is served by KLM and Air Berlin, among others.
Climate on Curaçao (ABC Islands)
Curaçao is in the direct sphere of influence of the so-called north-east trade wind and is nevertheless considered to be a comparatively dry Caribbean island with only a few, irregular rainfalls. It is striking that there are quite different amounts of precipitation on the ABC Islands in comparison to individual years.
So it is quite possible that a calendar year is extremely dry and the following year more rain falls on the Antilles. Basically the destination Curaçao convinces with a warm climate all year round, the day temperatures are always 29 °C and more.
Since the North-East Passat unloads the rain in the Caribbean, especially on the”islands above the wind” in the North-East, there is no real rainy season on Curaçao. At most between mid-October and mid-December, precipitation increases minimally. Especially beautiful for holidaymakers:
Curaçao is not in the risk zone for hurricanes in the Caribbean, so tropical cyclones are normally not an issue. In contrast to many other Caribbean islands, the European summer months are therefore also very pleasant. The sea inspires the whole year round with warm water temperatures between 26 °C to 28 °C.

When to travel to Curaçao?
The Curaçao climate has the special feature that the island can be visited almost all year round without thanks. Even between winter and summer there are only minimal temperature differences: The hottest month is September with average daily temperatures of 32.3 °C, the “coldest” month of January reaches average daily temperatures of 29.2 °C.
Due to its proximity to the equator, this part of the Caribbean is permanently warm and sunny. Our travel experts like to describe the months of January to May as the best travel season on Curaçao, as a light wind provides a light, pleasant cooling and at the same time very little rain falls.
In addition, there are almost no mosquitoes on the island in spring, but nature is rather dry during this period. Meanwhile, December is considered the best time for nature lovers to travel. Nevertheless, we can really recommend our readers the whole year as a travel time for Curaçao, as every season has its advantages.
