On this page, you will find information about the climate and the best time to visit Langkawi. We created climate tables and charts for the location of Langkawi. These contain details about temperatures, precipitation and more.
Furthermore, we analyzed all climate data and provide a recommendation about which months are best to visit Langkawi for your holiday.
Langkawi is one of the most popular holiday regions in the country and measures around 200 square miles (main island). Unlike neighbouring Penang, Langkawi has preserved much of its original character and is still covered by tropical rainforest to this day.
The island has its own international airport, which is served several times a day from the capital of Malaysia, especially by Air Asia, at reasonable prices. Alternatively there are bus connections and ferry connections (from Penang, Kuala Kedah or Satun in Thailand) available.
While the interior of the island is mainly agricultural, tourism is clearly in the foreground on the coast of Langkawi. However, the government is committed to sustainable concepts and tries to preserve the unique natural beauty of the islands.
The geopark with its imposing limestone rocks and adjacent mangrove swamps is also home to an impressive fauna, especially sea eagles (the heraldic animal of the island) can often be observed up close. In addition, the black sand beach Pasir Hitham, a cable car ride on Mount Mat Chincang, the Oriental Village and the capital Kuah are among the most beautiful sights.
The many artist villages, the Seven Walls and Durian Perangin waterfalls and a day trip to Pulau Payar Island (for divers and snorkellers) are also very popular with Langkawi tourists.
The dry season on Langkawi falls on the travel season from December to mid-April, the rainy season runs from about the beginning of May to mid-November. The highest rainfall is in September and October, the driest months are January and February.
Due to its sheltered location in the lee of Sumatra, large amounts of rain are already intercepted on the way to Langkawi, so that generally less precipitation is recorded than in other regions of Southeast Asia. The water temperatures on Langkawi are between 25 °C to 29 °C and are suitable for swimming all year round.

When is the best time to travel for Langkawi?
Temperatures on Langkawi are pleasantly warm all year round, but the high humidity during the rainy season often makes the climate appear unpleasant and humid to Europeans. May to November are therefore only recommended as travel time with some restrictions, even if favourable low season offers lure.
Ideally, we recommend the months December to March as the best travel season on Langkawi, and April is also a good month for a holiday on the Malaysian island. The month of November is a bit of a gamble: In some years it is already dry and pleasant, in other years still very humid.
