On this page, you will find information about the climate and the best time to visit Bali. We created climate tables and charts for the location of Denpasar. These contain details about temperatures, precipitation and more.
Furthermore, we analyzed all climate data and provide a recommendation about which months are best to visit Bali for your holiday.
Together with Nusa Tenggara, Bali is one of the so-called Small Sunda Islands in the Indian Ocean and stretches over a total north-south length of about 60 miles. According to the latest estimates, about 4.5 million people live in Bali, whose largest city Denpasar is also the provincial capital.
Bali has more inhabitants than Rhineland-Palatinate, but only about 30% of the area. Since most tourists settle in the bathing resorts in the south, however, in the centre, in the west and north of the island there is quite peace and in many places unexcited idyll. The province also includes the smaller neighbouring islands of Nusa Lembongan, Nusa Ceningan and Nusa Penida.
About 75% of the island area of Bali is mountainous and of volcanic origin, Gunung Agung is the highest peak at 3031 metres. Popular tourist destinations near Bali are the islands of Lombok and the Gili Islands off the coast.
Due to the mountains in the interior of the island, however, there is a very uneven removal of the rain clouds, especially the beaches in the north of the island have to expect only about half as much precipitation as the south. The heaviest rains are in January and February. Even in the dry season, when humidity and temperatures drop slightly, daytime temperatures of over 30 °C still prevail.
Bali’s beaches are suitable for swimming all year round with a constant water temperature of 27 °C to 29 °C with the exception of particularly stormy days. Because of the proximity to the equator there are no typical seasons apart from the dry and rainy seasons. The sun rises almost daily around 06:30 o’clock and disappears around 18:30 o’clock after a very short twilight phase from the horizon.

Despite an area of about 3500 miles² Bali is probably the most famous island of Indonesia, but by far not the largest. Indonesia consists of giants such as Borneo, Java and Sulawesi.

Climate in Bali
Bali has a tropical climate with high temperatures and quite high humidity all year round. The rainy season in Bali is determined by monsoon rains from the northwest and usually falls between mid-November and March.Due to the mountains in the interior of the island, however, there is a very uneven removal of the rain clouds, especially the beaches in the north of the island have to expect only about half as much precipitation as the south. The heaviest rains are in January and February. Even in the dry season, when humidity and temperatures drop slightly, daytime temperatures of over 30 °C still prevail.

When to go to Bali?
The question of the best travel season in Bali is largely determined by the rainy season described above. We recommend the months April to October as ideal travel period, whereby in the high season between June and August by the summer holidays in Europe and winter holidays in Australia quite high overnight accomodation prices are to be expected.
Experience has shown that the ideal mixture of good weather, reasonable prices and a pleasant number of visitors can therefore be found in the months of April, May, September and the first half of October.
This recommendation applies not only to bathing holidays, but also largely to climbing Gunung Agung as well as to water sports, surfers and divers. The months of June to September are particularly recommended, while the rainy season should be avoided if possible due to short visibility, rough seas and the risk of slipping on the hiking trails.

One of the most popular attractions in Bali is the artists’ town of Ubud with its many galleries and shops as well as the sacred monkey forest. A visit to the surrounding rice terraces is a must for every holidaymaker. Of course the many temples on Bali are also very popular, especially Uluwatu, Tanah Lot, Tirta Gangga and Ulun Danu Bratan are the most famous holy places of the island.
The most beautiful beaches on Bali are the bay of Nusa Dua with Geger Beach, Balangan Beach near Kuta and Jemeluk Beach in Amed. Our favourite, however, is the beach section directly at the beach bar “Finn’s Beach Club” near Uluwatu, which is only about 180 meters narrow.

Bali: Experiences of our Visitors
Partly cloudy, partly rain and sun and very warm simply good.
Weather Rating: 4 stars – Good
The weather was great. Every day approx. 34 – 38 degrees. In the two weeks we were there, it rained only once for about 5 minutes. Otherwise pure sunshine and a pleasant climate.
Weather Rating: 5 stars – Excellent
In March there are hardly any tourists in the north of the island, but you have to reckon with at least a thunderstorm of heavy rain during the day.
Weather Rating: 2 stars – Tricky
Mostly sunny, little wind, in the afternoon cloudy with rare tendency to thunderstorms. In the evening the clouds collapsed. Sometimes a little rain in the second half of the night.
Weather Rating: 4 stars – Good
The weather in June was perfect. Some clouds made the warmth very bearable, there was no rain in three weeks.
Weather Rating: 5 stars – Excellent
At the beginning of the rainy season I made a diving trip to Bali, the visibility was catastrophic and the sea restless. Since then I always check before booking when the best travel time is 🙂
Weather Rating: 1 stars – Mostly bad
October 2015 the weather was mostly good, with 2-3 cloudier days and 1 day of rain. All in all, however, for a tropical destination like Bali it is absolutely fine, especially as you are on the road a lot anyway and don’t just hang around on the beach.
Weather Rating: 4 stars – Good
Great weather in the south, in Ubud and further north in Lovina. In the middle of September we continued to Lombok and the Gili Islands and also had excellent weather there.
Weather Rating: 5 stars – Excellent
Weather was very changeable. From two weeks of vacation we had almost one week of rain. This didn’t bother us personally, but the island was comparatively quiet and many attractions were not so overrun. Because it is tropically warm, the travel time can be endured anyway.
Weather Rating: 2 stars – Tricky
We were on the road in Bali for almost three weeks in September 2015. The daytime temperatures were always above 30 degrees Celsius, we had lots of sunshine and the best bathing weather. Only on two days it was very cloudy and there were short, strong showers for a few minutes. Afterwards it cleared up again!
Weather Rating: 4 stars – Good
