The pulsating metropolis of Bangkok is the heart of Thailand, the country’s political, economic, cultural and infrastructural centre.
With the opening of Bangkok-Suvarnabhumi Airport in 2006, the former Don Mueang International Airport was transformed into a domestic airport for domestic flights. However, the popular low-cost airline Air Asia continues to use it as a hub for international flights. The international Suvarnabhumi Airport has grown to one of the 20 largest airports in the world with over 50 million passengers.
Although Bangkok may seem loud, poor, cloudy and stressful at first glance, tourists quickly come across a uniquely colourful and fascinating city with incredible diversity behind the scenes. So it’s no wonder that Bangkok ranks second behind London among the most visited cities in the world.
Statistically speaking, the hottest month in Bangkok is April, which usually starts the rainy season with increased rainfall. The rainy season in Bangkok runs from May to October and is characterized above all by humid-hot air and a very oppressive climate with very high humidity (September 84%).

When is the best time to travel to Bangkok?
In general, Bangkok is an all-year-round destination, as the capital is often used as an entrance gate to the wonderful Thailand. Even during the rainy season, some tropical showers are easy to cope with, as there are plenty of sheltered retreats in the city.
But if you want to get a closer look at the sights and attractions of the metropolis Bangkok, you need perseverance, good mood and patience. The traffic is often chaotic, the markets are sometimes overcrowded and generally it seems as if the whole city is literally on its feet as a tourist.
So it’s no surprise that we don’t recommend the sultry and hot rainy season as the best travel season in Bangkok. If possible, choose the dry season from November to mid-April when choosing your travel time. This also largely coincides with the best travel season for the holiday regions in the south (e.g. Phuket).
