Cyprus is a popular holiday island in the eastern Mediterranean. The distance between the island state and Turkey is around 47 miles, which means that Cyprus is already part of Asia in geographical terms.
As a rule, however, the island state is assigned to the European cultural area. Cyprus covers an area of 5700 square miles, making it the third largest Mediterranean island after Sicily and Sardinia.
Northern Cyprus, the northern part of the island, is claimed by Turkey, although under purely international law the entire territory of Cyprus became a member of the European Union in May 2004.
There are two mountain ranges in Cyprus, the Pentadaktylos mountain range in northeastern Cyprus and the volcanic, wooded Troodos mountain range inland.
Olympus, Cyprus’s highest mountain at 1952 metres, also belongs to Troodos. The capital is Nicosia, the northern part of the city is also the capital of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

The Cyprus climate is subtropical Mediterranean. Summers are characterized by a hot and very dry climate, winters are characterized by a mild and rather humid climate. Due to its southern location, Cyprus has particularly long summers with up to 13 hours of sunshine a day. In the region between the mountain ranges Pentadaktylos and Troodos it gets extremely hot in summer and there can be temperatures of over 45 °C.
At the coast the weather is a bit more moderate, but the day temperatures also here in summer mostly reach values of 37 °C and more. In general it can be stated that it is often cooler on the west coast due to the wind than on the east coast. The water temperatures in the Mediterranean reach the 20 °C mark around the end of April and are suitable for swimming throughout the summer until the end of November.
However, air temperatures cool down slowly in autumn and night temperatures of around 10 °C in November are not uncommon. Between the beginning of December and mid-March, the day temperatures remain below 20 °C. The lowest temperatures in winter are rarely below 8 °C on the coast. Snow regularly falls in winter on the plateaus of the two mountain ranges.

When to travel to Cyprus?
In principle, Cyprus can be visited all year round. If you want to go hiking and sightseeing, March, April and November are the best months for travelling. During the winter months in the Troodos Mountains until mid-March even skiers in Cyprus get their money’s worth. The high season for beach holidays is mainly during the summer holidays in July and August.
However, due to the extreme heat, often over 40 °C, this period is not suitable for every holidaymaker. Even the smallest activities in Cyprus (especially in the interior of the island) can become a torture in summer. We therefore recommend the period from the end of April to the end of June and from the beginning of September to mid-November as the best travel season for Cyprus.

Agía Nápa, Páfos (Coral Bay) and Ómodos are among the most popular holiday resorts. Many highlights are located in Larnaca, Limassol and the still divided state capital Nicosia.
During your Cyprus holiday you should definitely have seen the Lefkara peaks, the excavation sites in Paphos and Kykkos Monastery. Other attractions of the country are the amphitheatre of Kourion, the red villages of Larnaca and the Aphrodite rock. In Northern Cyprus, Famagusta and Girne stand out as tourist centres, the ancient Salamis is considered one of the most important attractions in the north.

Cyprus: Experiences of our Visitors
Were there now in May and the weather was fantastic. During the day around 30 and at night over a pleasant 22-24 degrees. Walks at night are super pleasant and on the beach chairs, which are accessible to everyone you can watch the stars at night and listen to the sound of the sea! For me the top season to relax on cyprus!
