Denmark is a so-called intercontinental state, as the official territory includes not only the Danish heartland between the Baltic Sea and the North Sea, but also the Faroe Islands and Greenland. The Faroe Islands are geographically part of Europe, but Greenland is the largest island on earth in the Arctic part of North America.
The official currency is the Danish krone, Denmark has not yet adopted the euro. Largest cities after the capital Copenhagen are Aarhus in Midtjylland, Odense in the region of Syddanmark, Aalborg, Esbjerg and Randers.
As a rule, permafrost is also rare in winter; although the values are often below freezing at night, they usually reach between 2 °C to 5 °C during the day between December and March. Western Denmark has quite moderate rainfall, in eastern Denmark it is even drier. There is no rainy season, there can be little rainfall every month.
Statistically most of the rain falls even in high summer (July). Day temperatures are usually between 19 °C to 23 °C, at night it cools down to 12 °C to 14 °C. Between May and August you can expect long days and lots of sunshine (up to 8.7 hours of sunshine per day).

Climate in Denmark
Denmark has a cool temperate climate, with mild summers and cool winters. The popular travel destination in Scandinavia is almost completely surrounded by water, this natural barrier has a great influence on the weather and provides for maritime influences. This is reflected, for example, in the reduced winter temperatures caused by the North Atlantic current. As a rule, permafrost is also rare in winter; although the values are often below freezing at night, they usually reach between 2 °C to 5 °C during the day between December and March. When to go to Denmark?
The mild climate in summer offers ideal conditions for a holiday in Denmark and is therefore recommended as the best time to travel. However, the water temperatures in the Baltic and North Sea are more suitable all year round for the”hard-boiled”, since even in high summer temperatures rarely exceed 17 °C in the sea. On windless, particularly warm days, however, these values are ideal for a short refreshment – it is and remains a leap into the cool water.
The Danish island of Bornholm is known for its summerly good weather, statistically speaking the climate there is particularly friendly by Danish standards. In autumn and spring a bathing holiday is inconceivable anyway, but then there are still good temperatures for a city trip or long walks by the sea.
Copenhagen in particular, but also many smaller cities, have their very own charm in wintertime. So we do not generally advise against a trip to Denmark in winter, but summer is without a doubt the best time to travel in Scandinavia.
