When is the best time to visit the Iguazú Falls?
The waterfalls in Iguazú are worth a visit all year round, with the main season for South Americans being during the summer holidays (i.e. in the German winter towards December and January). The falls reach their highest water level between December and March, not least because of the higher rainfall.
The best time to visit Iguazú also depends to a certain extent on your own expectations: the Brazilian winter is too fresh for some visitors, but the sky is often clear and there are fantastic rainbows. In addition, the paths are now easier to pass with slightly lower water levels and additional outdoor activities are now possible.
Our tip for the best time to travel to Iguazú Falls is a combination of pleasant weather with moderate temperatures and a good chance of blue skies for even more beautiful impressions and photos. According to this, we particularly recommend March to the beginning of May and August to September to visitors.
Due to the good travel conditions also outside these core times, we can recommend the entire period from February (i.e. after the end of the absolute high season) to the end of September to our readers with a clear conscience.

Even if there are accommodations for every travel budget in the surrounding villages, a stay directly in the National Park makes the visitor to the waterfalls even more extraordinary. In the Iguazú National Park (Argentina), only the upscale Sheraton Iguazú Resort & Spa has this exclusive location.
On the Brazilian side, the luxurious Belmond Hotel das Cataratas (our hotel tip!) is one of the best hotels in South America directly on the falls, surrounded by dense rainforest. For the visit of the waterfalls two full days should be planned, one of them on the Argentine side.
The two national parks have a colourful fauna, with the cheeky coatis at the Iguazú waterfalls being omnipresent. The highlight of the falls is the mighty Garganta do Diabo, where the wooden bridges lead into the heart of the waterfalls.

perfect travel weather and very impressive. the most beautiful station of our trip and a great addition to rio de janeiro, the beaches and the amazonas. i find iguazu even more blatant than the niagara or viktoria falls!
Weather Rating: 5 stars – Excellent
Perfect conditions in April at the Iguazu Falls, great impressive water level, no rain, but lots of sun and pleasant summer temperatures. A perfect experience!
Weather Rating: 5 stars – Excellent
We didn’t have any sun. Nevertheless, there were unbelievable moments with lots of water and a permanent roar of the waterfalls. I don’t want to miss this atmosphere with a lot of steam and spray in connection with defuse lighting conditions! If the weather is fine, anyone can!
