On this page, you will find information about the climate and the best time to visit Ko Samui. We created climate tables and charts for the location of Na Thon. These contain details about temperatures, precipitation and more.
Furthermore, we analyzed all climate data and provide a recommendation about which months are best to visit Ko Samui for your holiday.
In the vicinity of other paradises such as Ko Tao, palm-fringed Koh Samui is protected in the Gulf of Thailand and enchants travellers from all over the world with its fantastic beaches and excellent hotel resorts.
Together with about 100 islands from Koh Phangan to the Ang Thong Islands, the island is part of the so-called Samui Archipelago. Koh Samui airport is located in the northeastern part of the island, and a ring-shaped coastal road connects all regions.
In the southwest the Khao Thai Kwai, the highest mountain on Koh Samui, rises over 630 meters in height, despite the tourism boom in Thailand there are still sleepy villages, small fishing harbours and a lot of idyll.
The most popular and busiest resorts on Koh Samui are Chaweng on the east coast and Lamai in the south of the island. Thailand tours usually start from Bangkok and combine the inland like Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai in the north with a bathing stay on Phuket, Koh Samui or one of the smaller islands.
In fact, there are up to three different seasons on Koh Samui, but you can’t compare the differences with the seasons in Europe. The rainy season on Koh Samui lasts from mid-September to December, the climate is now very humid and the weather can be very humorous, especially in November and December. Longer monsoon rain showers and sometimes strong storms can therefore affect the holiday at this time.
But you might as well be lucky and meet fantastic weather (at reasonable low season prices). By the turn of the year at the latest, it will be much drier, from March the hot season will begin, and there will be almost no more wind. In May there will be more rain showers again, but these are more welcome refreshments from above.

When to go to Koh Samui?
If you want to be on the safe side, avoid the rainy months on Koh Samui. By far the most rain falls in November, followed by October, December and May. Nevertheless, especially in the supposed rainy season fantastic bargains lure on Thailand’s islands, but you should be aware of the risk that the holiday could fall into the water under certain circumstances.
In principle, the months January to March are considered the best travel season on Koh Samui. But even the much hotter months of April to September can be recommended as travel season despite several rainy days.
The tropical climate ensures hot temperatures all year round and quite high humidity. Most tourists come – due to the European summer holidays – between July and the beginning of September, so please do not misunderstand us: Even in summer you can enjoy an unforgettable holiday on Koh Samui!

Similar to Phuket and Koh Phangan, Koh Samui is especially popular with seaside vacationers, but the island in the Gulf of Thailand has much more to offer than just lying on its rotten skin under the sun. The great weather makes unforgettable excursions possible despite the high temperatures:
The sights of Koh Samui include for example the Big Buddha with 12 meters height as well as the inspiring temple complex Wat Plai Laem, also the mummified monk in Wat Khunaram is worth a visit. In the open air, not only the bizarre rock formations in Lamai await you, but also a magnificent viewpoint above Lamai Beach.
Also a tour to the Na Mueang waterfall should not be missing on any Koh Samui trip, especially in the rainy season huge water masses rush down here. The boat trip to the famous Angthong National Marine Park is also very popular. Our recommendations for the most beautiful beaches of Koh Samui:
Silver Beach has long since ceased to be an insider tip and is as busy as Lamai and Chaweng Beach. Instead, go to the incomparable Maenam Beach, Bang Po Beach or Choeng Mon Beach. Despite the danger of confusion, Chaweng Noi Beach is also worth a recommendation!

Ko Samui: Experiences of our Visitors
One week in January 3 years ago on Koh Samui and sun full about 28 degrees every day.
Weather Rating: 5 stars – Excellent
I have been to Koh Samui 3 times in the last 10 years ( Febr., Dec., January) and every year after 5 days of continuous rain we left the island and moved our holidays to Phuket or Koh Samet !! A dream island but the weather is unfortunately capricious!!
Weather Rating: 1 stars – Mostly bad
We had sunshine every day, sometimes a little cloudy. At night it often rained very heavily, in the morning the sun was shining again. During the day we had only twice for about 1-2 hours of rain, but very heavy 🙂
Weather Rating: 5 stars – Excellent
It was incredibly hot but always sunny. My pearl loved it, for me personally it was too much in the midday sun. On the other hand we had no rain except for a short 5 minutes shower and that is already worth its weight in Thailand
Weather Rating: 4 stars – Good
Summer, sun, sunshine – and that in February! Our honeymoon on Koh Samui was perfect all around, also the weather.
Weather Rating: 5 stars – Excellent
