Mallorca is about 110 miles from the Spanish mainland and is the largest of the Balearic Islands with around 2200 square miles. The maximum extension from east to west is 61 miles, the maximum width from south to north is 48 miles.
Mallorca is framed by two large mountain ranges, of which the north-western Serra de Tramuntana in particular has eleven mountains with a height of more than 1000 metres. Palma de Mallorca in the bay of Palma with about half a million inhabitants is the capital of the island and also the seat of government of the Balearic Islands.
The most popular holiday resorts on the island of Mallorca include Cala Ratjada, Sa Coma, Calla Millor, Alcúdia, Paguera, S’Illot, C’an Picafort, Magaluf and of course the party capital S’Arenal.
The east coast therefore receives noticeably less precipitation. Although the water temperatures are not really suitable for swimming until early summer, the Balearic island is a popular year-round destination, especially for active holidaymakers and those seeking relaxation. In winter the day temperatures usually lie between 11 °C to 17 °C, on 5 to 6 rainy days light showers are to be expected.
The famous almond blossom in the second half of January is particularly beautiful, the peach blossom follows around mid-March and the orange trees are also in full splendour in spring.

When to travel to Mallorca?
In addition to pleasant daytime values and sufficient hours of sunshine, a suitable water temperature is of course also important for a bathing holiday. Usually the weather starts the bathing season on the island towards the end of May, the water already reaches about 20 °C and on particularly warm days the thermometer fights its way up to 27 °C in the shade with almost 10 hours of sunshine.
However, the best time for beach holidays on Mallorca is between June and September. The days are long now, very sunny and warm. However, all beaches in the Balearic Islands are usually very crowded during the high season, and hotel and air fares are now of course increased as well. Rain in summer is an absolute exception in Mallorca, even in midsummer it rarely gets too hot due to a pleasant breeze.
October can also bring fantastic weather conditions in warm years, but showers are expected to increase from the middle of the month. The winter on the Balearic Island is significantly warmer than on the mainland of Spain. Hikers and active holidaymakers appreciate the transitional months in autumn and spring, as the”sunny island” is now the most impressive in terms of landscape, hotel prices are noticeably in the cellar and things are much more relaxed on Mallorca as a whole.

In this year’s Septembar we decided very spontaneously for a trip to Mallorca. There we mainly wanted to hike and explore the island on foot. A holiday in Mallorca is particularly suitable for an alternative and self-organised holiday in the low season, which starts around the beginning of September. The temperatures were already pleasant, although it still got up to 28 degrees during the day. But there was always a pleasant wind. The hiking and some routes were researched by us and finally we bought a hiking guide for Mallorca 😀
Weather Rating: 4 stars – Good
In the whole time only one day in the morning rain, otherwise always around 27/ 28°C and sunny.
Weather Rating: 5 stars – Excellent
