On this page, you will find information about the climate and the best time to visit Morocco. We created climate tables and charts for the locations of Marrakesh, Casablanca, Tangier und Agadir. These contain details about temperatures, precipitation and more.
Furthermore, we analyzed all climate data and provide a recommendation about which months are best to visit Morocco for your holiday.
The coastal town of Tangier, with its bright white houses, is only 9 miles as the crow flies from Spain. However, the Moroccan royal cities of Fès, Meknès, Rabat and Marrakech and the illustrious metropolis of Casablanca are world-famous.
The landscape of Morocco is very diverse and changes from dreamlike beaches and magical desert oases to huge mountain ranges, which are even popular as winter sports resorts (e.g. Oakaimeden in the Atlas Mountains).
Marroko borders the Atlantic Ocean to the west, Algeria to the east and the Mediterranean Sea directly to the north coast. Other popular destinations include the seaside resorts of Agadir and Taghazout as well as Essaouira, Ouarzazate and Tétouan.
The southern part of the kingdom tends to Saharan-continental weather with very hot desert climate and only very irregular low rainfall. In some years during the summer, the so-called Scirocco wind transports hot dusty Sahara air to the region. The coastal regions are very different from inland cities such as Marrakech.
While the winters at the sea are quite mild, in Marrakech after a hot summer and warm autumn the temperatures can fall into the cellar. As a rule of thumb, the inland is hotter in summer and colder in winter than the coast in Morocco. Of course, this does not apply to the higher mountain ranges. Most of the rain usually falls in all parts of the country between November and March, a real rainy season does not exist in Morocco due to the overall rather low rainfall.

The Kingdom of Morocco is a popular destination in north-western Africa. Around 33.5 million people live in the country, which is only separated from mainland Europe by the narrow strait of Gibraltar and is therefore referred to in many travel guides as the “gateway to Africa”.

Climate and weather in Morocco
Morocco is basically divided into two different climate zones: In the north and northwest of the country (north of the Atlas Mountains) the climate is Mediterranean, with mild but humid winter weather and very hot, dry summer months. The southern part of the kingdom tends to Saharan-continental weather with very hot desert climate and only very irregular low rainfall. In some years during the summer, the so-called Scirocco wind transports hot dusty Sahara air to the region. The coastal regions are very different from inland cities such as Marrakech.

When to go to Morocco?
Knowing the differences between coastal regions and inland, the summer months from July to October can be recommended as the best time to travel in Morocco for a seaside holiday. Destinations such as Agadir and Casablanca now have perfect conditions with pleasantly warm day temperatures and a water temperature of 19 °C to 22 °C suitable for swimming.
For the cities in the interior, however, the high summer is only recommended to a limited extent due to the enormous heat, especially July and August with daily temperatures of 37 °C and more (in Marrakech) can become unbearable for exploring the city. If you want to combine bathing fun with the sights of the cities during your Morocco holiday, we therefore recommend the months of June and September as the best time. If your trip is to be all about beach holidays and relaxation, July, August and September are the best time of the year.

Agadir has become the main destination in Morocco, as a large number of good hotels are available at reasonable prices and there are beautiful beaches in the modern city. Those who like it a bit quieter will find real dream beaches (with very few tourists) and an up-and-coming region with great beach hotels only a few kilometres north of Agadir in the former fishing village Taghazout.
Marrakech is known for its endless souks and the special atmosphere on the Djeema El Fna, which unfolds its extraordinary flair especially in the evening. Meanwhile Fès offers an interesting mixture of a time-honoured medina (UNESCO world cultural heritage) and a new town with a French touch. Our tip: The coastal town of Essaouira offers perhaps the most beautiful excursion destination in Morocco with its turbid harbour, the markets in the shadow of the old city wall and its incomparable sea view from the old ramparts!

Pleasant during the day – 16 /18 degrees, at night slightly cool at approx. 8° C. Good for excursions, 2 day trip through the desert e recommended. Night flair still not very cult, but pleasant for us older people.
Weather Rating: 4 stars – Good
The temperatures were very pleasant, in the highlands somewhat cooler, snow still lay occasionally, but in Fès and the other royal cities it was warm.
