Climate in New Caledonia
The archipelago in the southern Pacific is located in the tropics. Due to the relatively large distance to the equator, the temperatures are somewhat cooler than on other South Sea islands. Along the main island runs a mountain range that brings a humid climate to New Caledonia in the north and east and a dry climate in the rain shadow lying west and south. The southeast trade wind rains its humid air masses mainly on the eastern slopes of the mountains. As a result, the other regions of New Caledonia receive comparatively little rainfall. The eastern part of the island records 2500 to 157.48 in of rain per year, whereas on the western side less than 59.06 in of rain fall per year.

When to visit New Caledonia?
The best time to visit New Caledonia in the South Seas is the drier months of July to mid-December. During this time there is comparatively little precipitation and very pleasant temperatures. July and August can still be a bit fresh on some days, while from the beginning of December it becomes increasingly muggy and the danger of tropical cyclones can slowly increase. From mid-December until the end of March it is very hot and humid.
For a seaside holiday in New Caledonia, we recommend October and November as the best time to travel. In principle, however, the South Sea island can be visited well all year round, with most rainfall expected between January and March. This phase is in the warm season, which lasts from September to the end of March and can be described as”South Sea summer”.
