On this page, you will find information about the climate and the best time to visit Oman. We created climate tables and charts for the locations of Muscat, Salalah und Khasab. These contain details about temperatures, precipitation and more.
Furthermore, we analyzed all climate data and provide a recommendation about which months are best to visit Oman for your holiday.
Oman borders Yemen to the southwest, the Gulf of Oman to the north and the Arabian Sea to the east.
Besides the regular land area, the peninsula Rus al-Djibal at Cape Musandam, the exclave Madha (surrounded by UAE) and some islands also belong to the Omani territory.
About 4.2 million people live on an area of 192000 square miles, i.e. only about 13.5 inhabitants per square kilometre. Oman is only slightly smaller than Germany, but has only about 5% of the population.
The capital and economic centre of the Sultanate is Muscat in the north-east of the country. Muscat lies in a bay between towering rock faces and the foothills of the Hajar Mountains.
The highest elevation of Oman is Mount Jabal Shams with 3017 meters. However, the largest part of the land area is determined by the Jiddat al Harasis, an extensive desert.
The high humidity contrasts with the rather low rainfall, the entire coastal plain in the northern part of the country only rarely experiences rain during the year. The sea is suitable for swimming in all seasons with water temperatures from 23 °C (February) to 32 °C (June/July). A completely different climate prevails in the southern region of Dhofar on the Indian Ocean, which includes the up-and-coming holiday resort Salala (Salalah) in addition to Taqah and Mirbat. This part of Oman is strongly influenced by the Khareef monsoon.
In winter it rains only rarely, but from mid-June on there is a strange weather phenomenon in the region: Our climate table shows only quite small amounts of rain in Salalah during the rainy season. In fact, however, warm, humid air accumulates on the coastal areas of Salalah and dips the south of Oman into a kind of spray mist, which dips nature into lush green as a mixture of the finest rain and deeply hanging wafts of mist. This rainy season is so unique on the Arabian Peninsula that every year it attracts thousands of rich Arabs to Dhofar, who celebrate the”wonder of nature” and give Salalah a second peak season.

Climate in Oman
The climate in Oman is very warm all year round, one speaks by influences of the Indian monsoon also of a so-called randtropic climate. The north-eastern coastal plain around Muscat and further north is characterised by a subtropical climate with very hot summer months. From April to October daytime temperatures of 35 °C and more are the rule rather than the exception in Muscat. In hot periods, the 40 °C mark is often cracked, even at night in June and July about 30 °C is quite common. The high humidity contrasts with the rather low rainfall, the entire coastal plain in the northern part of the country only rarely experiences rain during the year. The sea is suitable for swimming in all seasons with water temperatures from 23 °C (February) to 32 °C (June/July). When to go to Oman?
To summarize the weather in Oman and our climate values: Summer in Oman is extremely hot, hazy and very humid. The best time to travel to Oman (both Muscat and Salalah) is therefore from November to March, and the transitional months of October and April are still well suited for a holiday in Oman.
The rainy season in the south (June to September) is celebrated by visitors from the United Arab Emirates as a natural wonder so much that many hotels have been excavated months in advance and a second main season around Salalah is emerging. However, this period is by no means recommended for European holidaymakers, as the climate during this period is perceived as rather unpleasant.

The region of Dhofar is already worth seeing, as the otherwise dry and colourless shrub savannah turns into a green, blooming landscape with the monsoon. The beaches of Salalah, more than 25 miles long, also earned the place the legitimate nickname “Caribbean of the Orient”. It is probably the most beautiful region for a relaxing beach holiday in Oman.
No less fascinating is the capital Muscat, which has preserved ancient traditions and offers a fascinating impression of the country’s culture. Muscat, with its protected location in a bay, is also absolutely unique in terms of landscape. The fjords around the peninsula Musandam (Khasab) are popular destinations. With a traditional Dhow it goes on maritime Erkundungstour´mit several snorkel stops, frequently the journeys are accompanied by dolphins.

Beginning of February first in the north: pleasant temperatures 24-26 degrees (in the mountains even quite cool in the evening), last third of February in Salalah, where the temperatures were very pleasant 23-25 degrees – however sea with strong current and waves
Weather Rating: 5 stars – Excellent
In the middle of April everything is OK but towards the end one notices what May brings with it, it became very unpleasant with day temperatures around 40 degrees.
Beach and people just perfect…..

After a round trip in the north at the end of February 2017, we had gone on holiday in Salalah, in the Fanar Hotel + Residences, also in the best weather.
The climate was perfect for us and we recovered very well.
The repetition of another holiday in the foregoing. The hotel is closed.
Weather Rating: 5 stars – Excellent
We were in Oman at the beginning of June and had great weather, no rain and also from the described spray mist was (still?) nothing to be felt in the regions visited by us. However, I have to admit that Oman is already extremely hot at this time of the trip and we had a bit of a hard time sightseeing in Muscat, al-Chasab and also Nizwa. We got up very early in the morning to rest during the long midday heat.
Weather Rating: 5 stars – Excellent
Easter in Salalah and it was just super great. The people, the weather, the great beach and our mega resort (Salalah Rotana Resort) really fit. Can only recommend this insider tip and April was the perfect time to travel
Weather Rating: 5 stars – Excellent
