About 2.2 million people live on an area of 7200 square miles, which results in a population density of about 186 inhabitants per square kilometre.
Apart from salt marshes and desert strips, Qatar has little to offer topographically. The country’s main source of income is oil trading. This has given Qatar great wealth since the 1960s and has enabled it to refinance the necessary import of countless goods through the lack of agriculture in the country.
Qatar is a fast-growing, up-and-coming emirate. The skyline of Doha on the Persian Gulf is constantly being complemented by new skyscrapers, and luxurious hotels are increasingly courting privately traveling tourists in the country.
The air humidity is up to 85 percent, but is somewhat reduced by the rather dry pubic passat wind. From September to December, temperatures drop to around 24 °C. Only in the months October to May it can come to isolated precipitation. However, even in the rainy month of February, the average rainfall is only 0.67 in.
Qatar is one of the driest areas on earth, the high temperatures make the short shower evaporate very quickly anyway. In the winter months, temperatures can cool down to more comfortable levels of around 15 °C.

When to travel to Qatar?
The best time to visit Qatar is in March and April, November and December. The temperatures are now in a tolerable range of 24 °C to 32 °C and are therefore also well suited for some explorations of Qatar’s cultural highlights. The minimal precipitation provides for temporary cooling. The nightly temperature drops to a minimum of 15 °C are perceived by Europeans as extremely pleasant.
It is not advisable to travel to Qatar in the summer months. The regular sandstorms could cloud the travel experience and the extremely high temperatures are simply unbearable for many holidaymakers. Even visits to the beach become a dangerous pleasure in the midday heat, people with poor circulation are advised to be particularly careful.

Most of Qatar’s economic and cultural life takes place in the capital, Doha. With the Museum of Islamic Art, the Souq Waqif and the Katara Cultural Village, the city has united three important sights of the country. On the coast to the Persian Gulf lies the Corniche as a popular promenade and with Aspire Park a relaxing, green oasis.
Qatar Airways is one of the world’s best state-owned airlines and wants to increasingly strengthen tourism. Last but not least, the (not undisputed) award of the 2022 World Cup will provide a further boost to the expansion of the infrastructure. Insider tip: If you don’t fancy a big shopping mall with western brands, you’ll find a really authentic flair at the Al Shahaniya Racetrack camel race track.
