When is the best time to travel for Samaná?
In travel guides and on information pages on the Internet you will find numerous, completely different hints about the best travel time on the Samaná peninsula. Of course, this is often due to the personal interests of the authors and site operators who want to boost tourism all year round.
But sometimes it is also due to ignorance and the dynamic changes caused by global climate change. In principle, we can indeed call Samaná a year-round destination with a clear conscience, as the temperatures from January to December are almost consistently tropical warm and the sea is also suitable for swimming on most days of the year.
The greatest danger of storms and hurricanes is between June and early October, with experience showing that most storms can hit the peninsula in August and September. Since it comes only in absolute exceptional cases to acute endangerment, this travel time is nevertheless very popular.
If you want to take the least weather risk, you should consider the best time to travel to Samaná from January to April. This recommendation coincides very well with the whale season off the coast: every year from January to the end of March hundreds of impressive humpback whales gather in the bay off Samaná – an incredible spectacle!

Samaná: Experiences of our Visitors
Very windy and almost every day rain?????????? We must be feeling climate change here. Been here a lot, but the weather’s getting worse.
Weather Rating: 2 stars – Tricky
We were there in august 2017 18 days, it was beautiful. 2 days of rain but otherwise sunny and in the evening still quite warm.
Weather Rating: 5 stars – Excellent
We were there in March. The weather was very changeable, it rained several times and in the evening it was quite cool. In the evening long clothes were advantageous. At this time of year the weather used to be more beautiful and almost without rain.
Weather Rating: 3 stars – Mixed
We were there at the end of April/May 2017, weren’t so lucky with the weather. The first 4 days it only rained, furthermore it was always cloudy, mixed. Days with blue cloudless skies were pretty rare.
Weather Rating: 3 stars – Mixed
the travelling time in march was a stroke of luck for us even if it was very hot. only once rain and otherwise super much sun and blue sky.
Weather Rating: 4 stars – Good
We were in and around Samaná in the middle of June. The climate was quite oppressive and humid (especially in the evening), hot during the day and mostly sunny. One day we had heavy clouds, otherwise the weather was quite good for this travel season.
Weather Rating: 4 stars – Good
Great weather, dream beaches without crowds and many great excursions. Also the whale watching was really impressive, one comes quite close to the animals with the boat under expert guidance and can observe the giants of the seas wonderfully. But don’t worry when swimming, the humpback whales keep a good distance to the coast. So it can’t happen that such a gentle giant suddenly appears next to you while bathing 😀
Weather Rating: 5 stars – Excellent
