Best Time to Visit Sint Maarten

Geographical location

St. Martin is an island in the Caribbean Sea. It is divided into a Dutch part called Sint Maarten, which belonged to the Netherlands Antilles until 2010, and the French part called St. Martin.

Capital of the French part is Marigot, the capital of Sint Maarten is Philipsburg. St. Maarten is one of the so-called “islands above the wind”. The island has about 70,000 inhabitants.

The nearest Caribbean islands are Anguilla, St. Barth and Saba, between 15 and 31 miles from St. Maarten.

The nearest larger islands are Puerto Rico to the west, which is almost 190 miles away, and Guadeloupe, almost 160 miles to the south-east. The distance to the South American mainland is about 560 miles, North America (Florida) is almost 120 miles from St. Maarten.

The climate at St. Maarten

The climate at St. Maarten is maritime and tropical. Temperatures are relatively high, but fluctuate only slightly throughout the year. As it is located in the northern hemisphere, the warmer summer months are from June to August with maximum temperatures above 30 °C and average temperatures of 29 °C. However, the winter months are not much cooler, here the average temperatures are still around 25 °C, even the lowest temperatures barely fall below 20 °C.

Due to the pleasant water temperatures, a bathing holiday is possible all year round, the temperatures fluctuate between 26 °C and 29 °C. The weather is very pleasant all year round, the number of hours of sunshine per day is between 8 and 9.

The dry season is in the first months of the year, but in summer and autumn there is slightly more precipitation, in the months September – November over 3.94 in per month. However, there is no extreme rainy season with more than 6.89 in precipitation per month.
