St. Maarten is a popular holiday destination for Caribbean cruises. The cruise ships dock in the morning, the tourists can spend the day on the island and in the evening the ship leaves again. As a result, there are only a few tourists on the island in the evening and especially in the Dutch part of the island, the capital Philipsburg is almost extinct in the evenings.
St. Maarten attracts many so-called plane spotters. Maho Beach is located directly at the airport, where you can watch planes landing at close range, as they come down just a few meters above the beach and land on the runway just behind it.
