St. Lucia (engl.: Saint Lucia) is an island state of the Lesser Antilles in the Caribbean. For a long time the island was under colonial rule of the British crown; it was not until 1966 that Saint Lucia was granted the status of an autonomous state. The country has been an independent member of the Commonwealth of Nations since 1979.
The head of state is thus British Queen Elizabeth II, represented by a local governor general. Even today, the official language is English, which makes it very easy for tourists to communicate in St. Lucia.

Climate of Saint Lucia
St. Lucia has a humid tropical climate with regional differences, mainly due to the large lava fields and mountain ranges in the interior of the island. The generally rather hot climate is cooled somewhat by the northeastern trade wind, so that the temperatures are usually bearable. The elevations, above all Mount Gimmie with a height of 960 metres and the volcanic mountain cones Gros Piton and Petit Piton, ensure that cloud formations can rain down on Saint Lucia all year round. When is the best time to travel on St. Lucia?
In general, Saint Lucia is suitable for a holiday all year round, with some restrictions, although the rainy season and hurricane season can be quite unsettled. For bathing holidays and outdoor activities such as trekking or water sports, however, the dry season is particularly suitable.
The best time to visit Saint Lucia is therefore from mid-December to mid-May. January, February and March are particularly attractive. However, this is also the absolute high season with correspondingly high prices and visitor numbers on the island.
Attractive discounts will be available from around mid-April onwards in the off-season, and May is generally still a very good time to travel to St Lucia. From the middle of May, however, the beginning of the rainy season is usually clearly noticeable, the humidity rises and strong showers occur on many days.

The biggest attraction of the Caribbean island St. Lucia is above all its unique natural scenery with breathtaking mountain panoramas, lush rain forests and romantic bathing bays. The landmarks of Saint Lucia are the 800 meter high Twin Pitons near the Jalousie Plantation harbour.
The capital Castries is one of the most beautiful spots of the whole Caribbean, especially the beautiful harbour is always worth a visit. The ruins of the old fort at Morne Fortune offer a breathtaking view. In the city centre itself, many colonial buildings fell victim to a great fire in 1948. The preserved buildings around Derek Walcott Square still provide a good insight.
The Jump Up Street Party in the fishing village Gros Islet takes place every Friday, where local delicacies and a lot of Caribbean joie de vivre await. In Anse La Raye the BBQ night lures on the same day with live music and delicious fish dishes. Also a visit to Marigot Bay should not be missing on a Saint Lucia trip as much as a mud bath in the sulphur springs near Soufrière.
