Thailand borders the neighbouring countries Malaysia, Laos, Myanmar and Cambodia. The two adjacent seas are the Gulf of Thailand (Pacific Ocean) and the Andaman Sea (Indian Ocean).
More than 90 percent of the Thai population of currently about 68 million people profess Buddhism.
Thailand extends from the southeastern foothills of the Himalayas to the Malay Peninsula. The centre of the country with the capital Bangkok is dominated by the fertile Chao Phraya River.
In northern Thailand (e.g. Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai) mountain ranges dominate, here is also the highest elevation of the country (2565 meters) with Doi Inthanon.
Pattaya and the islands Koh Chang and Koh Samet belong to the region of Eastern Thailand. The palm-fringed region of southern Thailand, which includes popular destinations such as Phuket, Krabi, Koh Samui, Koh Phi Phi, Koh Pha-ngan and Koh Tao, has the greatest tourist significance.
Afterwards, the Thai summer runs from the beginning of March to about the end of May with very hot temperatures, before the rainy season in northern Thailand usually ensures heavy precipitation, high humidity and muggy-warm conditions from the beginning of June to the end of October.
The centre around the capital Bangkok also belongs climatically to the tropical savannah zone in the north and is considered moist with a longer dry season. Southern Thailand, on the other hand, has more constant temperatures throughout the year, which are only subject to minor fluctuations.
The climate on the popular holiday islands is therefore rather humid and tropical all year round. So tropical rains also occur during the north-east monsoon in winter. However, with the summer southwest monsoon, there has been a significant increase in humidity and rainfall.
This rainy season in the south runs similarly as in the north of Thailand from the beginning of June to the end of October. The islands in the southeast (especially Koh Samui) have less rainfall and a shorter rainy season than the areas in the southwest (e.g. Phuket). May, October and November in particular are very humid.

Thailand: Experiences of our Visitors
It couldn’t have been better for us. It was great
Weather Rating: 5 stars – Excellent
It is rainy season, but it rained only once a day for an hour and it is warm rain.
Weather Rating: 5 stars – Excellent
I was in Bangkok in the first week of June, Ko Samui, Ko Pha-ngan and Ko Tao. It really rained 2 times but after 30 minutes it was all over.
Weather Rating: 4 stars – Good
My partner and I were in Thailand for a month. From north to south.
In the north it was pleasantly warm, one could always leave the house well in shorts and shirt, in the evening one needed a thin jacket from time to time.
In the south it was always warm, something warm than in the north. We never wore anything long there. On two days it rained heavily for 2-3 hours when we were on Koh Tao, otherwise it was always nice.
In any case, one must not forget the sunscreen, even if one”only” takes cultural days and does not lie on the beach! For women it is always important before going to a temple, even if it is too warm to have a scarf to cover their shoulders or knees (often on site as a loan).
It was a dreamlike holiday a beautiful country with its different facets.
Weather Rating: 4 stars – Good
Of 14 days only the last 2-3 days were a little cloudy and there were occasional short warm showers. Travel time 03.03.-19.03.2017
Weather Rating: 4 stars – Good
It was very warm (often around 40°C) and always sunny, we didn’t have a drop of rain in 4 weeks. For some this may be too warm, especially in combination with the sometimes high humidity, but for us it was perfect and the bsolute dream weather 🙂
Weather Rating: 5 stars – Excellent
Occasionally there were short showers, but it was never cold. Overall pleasant and okay
Weather Rating: 3 stars – Mixed
3-4 often cloudy, mostly until shortly before noon, in the early evening often strong, very watery cloudbursts.very high humidity. But also sunny days without rain.
Weather Rating: 3 stars – Mixed
We spent a few days in the Phuket, Khao Lak and Koh Phi Phi region at the end of September 2015. Of course, we knew beforehand that it was still the rainy season, so we had to expect rain, clouds and turbulent seas. In the end it was very changeable: We had great weather on Koh Phi Phi, but mainly rain in Phuket. Khao Lak was mostly fine meanwhile.
Weather Rating: 2 stars – Tricky
The weather was always great, mostly very hot. There was no rain. We were in the north as well as in the south on the islands and I can say that was the perfect time to travel.
Weather Rating: 5 stars – Excellent
6 weeks only sun in koh lanta .2013+2014. 2012 Hua Hin as well
Weather Rating: 5 stars – Excellent
